ECT Button

The Electronic Control Type (ECT) button is a feature of the Automatic transmission models and should effectively be considered to be a "Sports Mode" button!

When pressed "on", it moves the pre-programmed gear change point up a few hundred RPM - which allows the engine to rev a little bit harder before shifting up to the next gear.

Whilst it does not increase engine power, it does create slightly better acceleration at the top end of the rev range for conditions such as overtaking, driving up hills and the like - at the cost of decreased fuel consumption.
