Cheers to you both. Thanks for the coolant advice Tony. I'll keep an eye open for that.

No - you wont get much out of the sump, a lot of oil stays in the torque converter and the only way to do it properly is to disconnect the ATF cooler pipe at the bottom of the radiator, the right hand one of the smaller pipes (if memory serves) and run the engine to pump out 2 litres at a time. Top up same amount via the dipstick tube -a medium size funnel is useful. You need 2 x 2 litre plastic jugs (cheap from ASDA, Poundland maybe), one to catch used oil, the other to top up, and 12-15ltrs of ATF.  After 3 repeats of the above reconnect the cooler pipe and run the engine for a few minutes going through all the gears, then repeat emptying and topping up until you're happy with the ATF condition.

Sounds like a faff, but if your ATF is brown investing say £50 and an hour or two will save you major expense in the future.  Dexron 2 recommended, got mine from Euro Car Parts.

Don't know about the sump filter, I believe there is one but in 6 years ownership I haven't been minded to look at it!

Hi all going to do a atf change as it is brown  Sad

Just wondered is it possible to drain a bit from the sump and syphon the rest with a fish tank syphon through the dipstick?
Also is there a filter or anything inside the sump that could be cleaned up if I removed it?
