It's gone. Unfortunately I couldn't get the nuts off at the manifold end so had to take it in to a local garage - the old exhaust and silencer were a lot worse than I thought with lots of holes on the top so I'm feeling like the lucy's life has restarted on that front.

Although the old girl usually starts with no problem every now and then I'm getting a nasty and unproductive, grinding, clicking sound from the starter.
Do you think there may be a broken tooth somewhere? And as it just happens now and then I assume it's not the cog on the starter itself?
When I think about it I get a similar grinding sound in my head with the assumption that this is difficult and expensive to fix.
Someone please tell me I'm wrong!

I wish. No, Donk only returned from his Greek holiday Monday, he had a few things to sought at work and will be round today to continue this never ending story. At least that interlude gave me time to accumulate all those necessary materials and bits and bobs.
