hi guys head gasket gone on my 97 previa .....after getting a few 1000 quotes and a few laughs from garages ... i decidered to have a go myself i have a little experienece ...ive lowered engine removed trimmings
following the chilton manual ... ive come to the dizzy it says  matchmark and remove in that section .....but in the dizzy removal section its says get cylinder 1 to tdc before markng and removal ... just checking if this is correct as on camshafts i have to turn those before removing them Sad so i thinking this is going to disturb the timing .... hoping to get it off this wknd any help would be great Smiley

i am assuming its a petrol you have.
on the deisel 3cte the line on the cam will is too point down to remove the vac pump the up inline with the rocker gaskit to remove the belt. this will make it easier for getting the timing because every thing else will be already in position.
Propnut is usually the best for answers for the petrol engine.

yeah its petrol i got the rocker cover off ... only i got to do is the dizy and the cams Smiley but was wondering if i have to set the dizzy to 1 tdc before match marking it as it says in the manual i have to move cams to get them out which i would think it would move the timing  Huh?

Normally you set No1 to TDC and that's your timing mark for everything.... petrol or diesel.
If you have CAMS I take it yours is a twin cam ?

If mark both cam pulleys when at tdc, it will make refitting easier.

Hi guys finally got the bus back on the road . Was a lot easier putting it back together lol . All seams to be running fine . Just sounds a little tapperty :\ . At a cost of approx 350 so not to bad that's including oils and dizzy cap and rota plugs and also gained a few tools along the way Smiley .

Excellent news, good to hear you'r up and running again. Never attempted much on a Previa myself but there doesn't seem to be much in the way of space to work on stuff.

Previa definately has more room around engine and under bonnet then the Estima... so should mean fewer cut knuckles  ..lol  Tongue
