Caravan Hunting - help needed
« on: January 16, 2008, 10:59:26 PM »

As some maybe aware, I am on the hunt for a nice 5 berth caravan.

See looks nice on the old E'bay but when parting with big(ish) cash would rather have a pair of eyes look over it.

Now here is me problem.
Most are south of the boarder.
So I was wondering.
If I give a district would someone be kind enuf to let me know if they are close by  Huh? Huh? :Smiley

Ta

I am looking at one in Batley, west yorkshire at the mo.

Anyone close Huh?  :Smiley

I am probably about 4 hours closer normally but right now I am in Stevenage until next Thursday when I fly out to the Philippines for 5 1/2 weeks so after that give me a shout if you want me to look at anything for you

Apparently there could be a glut of used caravans coming onto the market on completion of all the flood damage repair to residents housing. Many have been living in them during the repair works.

Unless they keep them encase it floods again, a bargain or two could be had. Undecided

When we had our touring caravan sited on a year round static site I was concerned with my third party liability's.

Say it rolled away or blew into another caravan or injured a person etc,you would be liable. So I insured with this firm http://www.eandl.co.uk/touring-caravan-insurance/ very cheap and gives you peace of mind even if your caravan is not worth that much. Wink

Whilst its connected to your vehicle its generally insured third party, but not once its unhitched.

Obviuous ones to look are damp and rot, opening cupboards in corners when inspecting is worth doing.
Bear in mind what available time you have to pick up,the Fleetwodd gives 7 days from end of sale for example. Smiley
Mirrors and and a stabiliser, maybe things to consider for towing.

Thanx Daz  Wink

I think we are gonna keep an eye on the market but not intend to buy for 3/4 weeks as we both are in the middle of busy work times and as you say most of the sellers on Flea-bay want them shifted quick.

I would be looking for one with a good size window at the rear for rear view. When my curtains closed,(after forgetting to tie back :Smiley(  I realised what it's like to have a panelled back with a small window.
That extra rear vision of whats coming up behind you when lane changing with the caravan is a god send.

See - now this is the type of advice I am looking for  Cool.

Forget Tow Weights and Damp Proofing - get one with a big back window so you can see what you are pulling out in front of and the HAPPY people you are holding up  :Smiley Grin

the bottom one looks the best to me..

the insurance is a must I think, we have e&l cover too although I have heard they are very bad at paying out.....

with the estima I agree with Daz as well - with a normal car it is irrelevant but because of the extra height of the estima you do get a great view through the van of the road behind.
